Frequently Asked Questions

Tibet's altitude is the most challenging aspect of this journey. Lhasa sits at 3,650m and we reach 5,200m at Everest Base Camp. Most travelers experience some altitude effects initially. Our itinerary includes proper acclimatization time and our guides are trained in altitude-related health issues.

Tibet requires a Tibet Travel Permit in addition to a Chinese visa. We handle all permit applications, but you must provide passport details 60 days before departure. All permits are issued to groups with designated guides - independent travel is not permitted.

Accommodations vary from comfortable hotels in Lhasa and Shigatse to basic guesthouses in remote areas. At Everest Base Camp, accommodation is basic but clean. The nomad tent experience at Lake Namtso is traditional but comfortable with thick mattresses and warm bedding.

No prior knowledge is required. Our expert guides provide context and explanation for everything you'll see. We'll introduce basic Buddhist concepts and explain the significance of rituals and ceremonies. The trip is educational and respectful for travelers of all backgrounds.

The best time to visit is April through October. Days are generally sunny and pleasant (15-20°C in Lhasa), but nights can be quite cold, especially at higher elevations. Weather can change rapidly in the mountains. The high altitude means intense UV radiation, so sun protection is essential.
